Wrocław Global Forum is organized since 2010 by the Atlantic Council and the city of Wrocław annual meeting of hundreds of politicians, diplomats, experts and representatives of business, primarily from Poland, EU countries and the USA. WGF Conferences primarily focus on topics: transatlantic economic cooperation and political relations between the European Union and the United States. So far, WGF guests were i.a.: President Bronisław Komorowski, Senator John McCain and the Ladies in White - women of Cuban social movement demanding the release of dissidents.
The meeting is also an opportunity to give Freedom Awards granted by the Atlantic Council - which honour people and organizations fighting for peace and freedom in their country, as well as in the world. Freedom Awards were first given in Berlin on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Lech Wałęsa was among the honoured people. In previous editions, awarded people were, among others, Hillary Clinton, Vaclav Havel, Javier Solana, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, Jerzy Buzek, Władysław Bartoszewski, above mentioned Las Damas de Blanco - Ladies in White, or The People of Maidan. This year's meeting was held on June 11-13 in the capital of Lower Silesia in Wrocław Congress Centre at ul. Wystawowa, and Freedom Awards prizes were given to: the director Agnieszka Holland, posthumously to Russian politician-oppositionists Borys Niemcow, former Prime Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt, Ukrainian pilot and deputy imprisoned in Russia Nadia Savchenko and Donieck National University.
